Page 4 - Saturday Cont'd

After enjoying the Arts Show, a few of us decided to walk up to the main building.

The ever- energetic Dale waits at the top of the steps,  encouraging us upward.
This climb did not seem this steep in the 50's.  What memories these steps hold for all of us.

Strolling into the new library, we interrupted a meeting being held with the new Headmaster but they
were kind enough to invite us in and took a recess while we toured the  new library.
Here we have Billy Teasley, Barbara Lewis Estes,  Dale Denham Shaffield, Carol Dickerson Dunbar,
Dennis Dickerson, and Bill Dunbar gazing in awe at the grand building.  Barbara commented
that the stacks would not be as easy to hide in as the ones in our old library.
Now why would you need to hide in the stacks, Barbara?

Our group toured Hodgson Hall and went out to the front of the building.  Another landmark
that holds many memories for all of us is this bench and we were glad to see it restored.
Dennis Dickerson and sister, Carol Dickerson Dunbar, enjoyed a moment together.

Our exploring group - Barbara Lewis Estes, Dennis Dickerson, Bill Dunbar, Carol Dickerson Dunbar,
Dale Denham Shaffield, Beverly Guthrie Lougher, and Billy Teasley pose for a picture
in the walkway between the chapel and the Morris Brown building.

Linda and Phil Landers were also exploring and joined our group. It appears that Phil is showing
Dale Denham Shaffield how to do the Tomahawk Chop.  Billy Teasley is not too sure he
is doing it correctly.  We all headed back to the Heritage Center to see and hug any new arrivals.

We found that Susan Houghtaling Odom and Angie Brack Parkerson
 were still busy selling cookbooks.

Bill Kelly is showing Barbara Lewis Estes the 50's Board that Dale fixed for us.
He is probably telling her how he loved to tease Miss Arnold.

Everyone was delighted when Barbara Dean Hallford and her husband Irvin arrived.
Barbara was a friend to many and was welcomed warmly.

Gerald Hammett was happy to see his old friends - James Smith, Bob Clackum, and Twigg Smith.

Jack Ayers greets his friend, Twigg Smith.

Jim Lougher with Foster Goolsby, JC 40.  He was the principal at Tucker High School
where Jim graduated.  Foster is remembered by his Tucker students with respect and affection.

Gwen Raby Mansini sits with  Elaine Stovall Olive.  They were enjoying their memories and each other.

As the noon hour approached we all gathered in the tents by the Dining Hall
for lunch and the Annual Alumni Meeting.

Wilma Kelly Hoilman, Beverly Knowles Lindsey wait for the dinner bell with
Fern Dodd Strickland and Irvin Hallford.

The only problem with our lunch seating is that you want to sit at every table.
Here Adilene Burrell Davis, Wynona McDowell Blackstock, J. Harold Thurmond,
Gail Thurmond, and Mildred
Burrell Bennett share a table.

Broward and Don Strickland are ready for lunch.  In the background Robbin Shope Houston,
Linda Means Kelly, Billie Bert Shope Harrell stop to chat.

Joe and Sarah Garner Bondurant with Don and Terry Kelly share lunch with Patty Cone Gober,
Beverly Burton Struble and Patsy Rice Cunningham.  This group must have taken lots of pictures.
Check out the cameras on the table.

Fern Dodd Strickland with friend, Bob Kehres, lunches with Ann Mays Brooker.

with husband, Ford.  Alice is really enjoying that chicken!

Beverly Burton Struble and Patsy Rice Cunningham having a great time.
These two are such fun to be with and everyone enjoys their company.

Linda Landers and Barbara Lewis Estes laughing at Phil's joke.

Cleo Dodson and Jane Tanner Bridges having fun with each other.

Pat Wright McNulty and Vernon Wright were happy to see Paul Wolford arrive.

Greg Ziegler addressed the Alumni Meeting as Headmaster  for the last time.

Beverly Guthrie Lougher was delighted to present to her brother-in-law,
Charlie Underwood, the "Honorary Alumnus Award".  Charlie was very surprised and deeply
touched by the honor.  His choice was very popular with the 50's alumni.

Charlie wanted to share his honor with his two favorite alums - Beverly Guthrie Lougher
and Hazel Guthrie Underwood.  Also his two greatest fans.

The Class of 1954 was celebrating their golden anniversary.  We rounded them up for a formal picture.
Back row:  Gerald Hammett, Beverly Burton Struble, Hazel Guthrie Underwood, Patsy Rice Cunningham, Ann Mays Brooker
Front row:  Bob Clackum, Patty Cone Gober, Fern Dodd Strickland, Beverly Burrell Bennett, Wynona McDowell Blackstock
Dennis was off playing golf and missed the photo.

We came away from the 2004 Rabun Gap Alumni Meeting filled
with pride in our school.  We had enjoyed delicious food, wonderful fellowship,
and made new memories to share until we meet again in 2005.  Our appreciation
to the Alumni Executive Committee and Janie Owens for informing and entertaining
us and to our school we give our thanks for the privilege of gathering every year
to share this time with each other.
