RABUN GAP NACOOCHEE HOMECOMING 2005

SATURDAY - June 4, 2005 (Cont'd)

The Saturday night cookout, hosted by Bill and Jean Kelly, was held at the Alumni Heritage House.  Their co-hosts this year were Hazel and Charlie Underwood, Beverly and Jim Lougher and Dale Denham Shaffield.   Charlie and Bill handled the cooking.   Both did a great job with some help from their sous chefs.

Bill seasons the burgers while Billy Teasley and Karen Merrow  get the buns ready.  While co-hosts, Dale and Beverly, were touring the barn,  Hazel and Jean Kelly were in the kitchen getting the table set up and all the food ready.

Charlie and Bill with helpers Billy, Karen and Ralph Merrow.  Verlon McDowell  wandered down to see when the burgers would be ready to eat.

The class of 1954 had a great time in high school and they still love getting together.  Ann Mays Brooker, Dennis Dickerson, and Hazel Guthrie Underwood.

Opal Norton Messer '57 and Jimmy Moore.  Opal compiled and edited Jimmy's buttermilk cookbook for him.  A time consuming task done for the love of Judy.

Mildred Burrell Bennett '54 with Kathleen Brown Efrid '55 and Nannette Carter Curren '55 visiting and waiting for dinner.

Lexie Justus Scruggs, Wilma Kelly Hoilman, Dennis Dickerson, Olivia Dees Gillis and Beverly Knowles Lindsey checking out Dennis's photo album.

Soup's On! The burgers, hot dogs, cole slaw, baked beans, and fixings were a  hit  with the crowd.   Dale asked Theresa Halcomb, the school dietitian, if she would cater the cole slaw, beans, and fruit tray.  She did a beautiful job for us and made us a deal.   She also loaned us coolers with ice.  We are very thankful for her help and the food was delicious - but we knew it would be.

Unfortunately we have no picture of the dessert table in the next room.  We asked everyone to bring a dessert and the response was a beautiful sight to behold.
Angie Brack Parkerson promised Jerry McCray '60 that she would make him a Flag Cake and bring it to homecoming.  Unfortunately Jerry was ill and could not come.  The cake and sign were still for Jerry.  I know Jerry will be glad to know his cake was enjoyed by many.
 Next year Jerry!

Our tradition on the Saturday night cookout is to take "Class Pictures".

James Smith, Gene Vinson, and Ron Ward are sending a message to all our friends who could have come and did not.

John and Kim Hart with sons, Jarred and Lincoln.  John is the Farm Family Director and we invited him to join us for our cookout.

The three Burrell sisters stopped for a picture as they were leaving.  Mildred Burrell Bennett, Virginia Burrell Lanning and  Adilene Burrell Davis.

The end of the party finds Barbara Lewis Estes, Bill Kelly, and Jack Davis relaxing on the porch.  Those rockers sure do get a workout at Homecoming.  It was a great party.  Thanks Bill and Jean and the co-hosts for bringing us together.
